People’s Pop Up Pantry in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation has created a fantastic teen cooking program called Teen Chef.
It was created by our Director, Monica Jones-Borges and the Garfield Community Center Recreation leader, Jean Lee. Jean has been working with teens for 30 years so when the teens approached her with a request to learn how to cook, she set out to make it happen. She started by heading across the street to Coyote Central where the People’s Pop up Pantry was hosted. She spoke with our Director and together they launched an idea to bring in neighborhood chefs to teach the teens. Within 3 weeks of that first meeting, they launched a 12 week program for teens to learn how to cook complete meals for themselves and their families. The Teen Chef Program was such a success that People’s Pop Up Pantry and Seattle Parks and Recreation are launching it again Oct, 5 at Jefferson Community Center. People’s Pop Up Pantry supplies the food and the chefs while Jean Lee, Seattle Parks and Recreation supplies teens who are eager to learn to cook
